In remote villages across Vietnam’s central highlands and Mekong delta, many children walk long distances to school barefoot or in worn-out sandals. This exposes them to injuries, infections, and discourages daily attendance — especially during the rainy season when paths become muddy and hazardous.
The Steps to School program provides durable shoes and socks to underprivileged children, alongside hygiene education on foot care. By giving them proper footwear, we help keep them safe, healthy, and motivated to pursue their education.
✅ Reduce school absenteeism caused by foot injuries or embarrassment.
✅ Lower rates of infections and tropical diseases spread through soil contact.
✅ Build children’s confidence, dignity, and sense of belonging in school.
"Before I had shoes, I would get cuts on my feet every day walking to school. Sometimes it hurt so much I stayed home. Now with my new shoes, I can run and play with my friends."
— Linh, 9 years old, Gia Lai Province
